When Mr. J. M. Jacquard introduced his loom in 1804, it revolutionized the art of weaving. In fact, it changed all of our lives, as the jacquard loom is the precursor to the modern day computer.
The jacquard machine enables the designer to make almost any shape imaginable, using a punch card system to control the yarns. No longer is the weaver bound by geometry; woven shapes of infinite variety can be copied without concern for size.
The tapestries and other designs included here show the depth of color and weave complexity this loom can produce, as well as how simple plaid can be enriched by the addition of another figure woven into the design. The jacquard loom gives the weaver an almost limitless range of design possibilities.
